Anna E. Smith is an Edinburgh-based photographer with a passion for capturing ephemeral moments. Relying solely on natural light, Anna’s candid documentary style seizes moments with impulse and authenticity.
Her Australian suburban childhood was interrupted in 1988 when at age 6 Anna moved to Singapore with her family. From backyard sprinklers and hills hoists, to moon cakes and merlions, Anna made her first foray into foreign lands, paving the way for a life-long love of travel and immersion into foreign cultures.
But it was at 21 when Anna taught English in Japan for a year that she took up photography in her spare time, fascinated by a world of manga, myths and Maikos.
Anna’s first exhibition ‘Latin Roots’ was held in Antigua, Guatemala 2012-2013 and contained images from Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Paraguay. With a style that blends fine art with photojournalism, and over 10 years of experience, Anna’s photographs have a natural, spontaneous quality.
Whether a funny moment, a beautiful portrait, a landscape or a still life, Anna takes portrait photographs that both document the day and are pieces of art in their own right.
